This past sunday i had the pleasure of seeing new york’s very own orpheus chamber orchestra perform with my favorite brooklyn songwriter Gabriel Kahane as the guest composer for the evening. Orpheus opened with a piece by Paul Hindemith called “Kammermusik No 1,” then an original piece by Kahane called “orinoco sketches.” both equally impressive. after a not so quick intermission, Orpheus accompanied Gabriel Kahane as he played his entire new record “where are the arms” which ‘nicest dude on the planet’ Matt Johnson played drums on. It was amazing to me to see these two worlds come together so organically. The guy is only 29 yrs old and is gonna continue to do big things.
